What I've seen in some drawing apps is that, if you select several
objects, they don't show the knobs anymore. In general, the whole
selected set gets only eight knobs around the smallest enclosing
rectangle. That would solve the issue, too, though it makes it kind of
hard to see which of a series of small objects close to each other are
already selected, and which aren't. Just thought I'd provide this as
an additional data point.
